Michael Duane Shufelt, age 59, of Sturgis, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 20, 1954, in Sturgis, a son of the late Harold and Mary (Alward) Shufelt.
Michael grew up on his parents’ farm at 1184 Round Lake Road in Burr Oak and graduated from Bronson High School with the class of 1974.
On June 20, 1975, he married Donna Moore in Howe, Ind. They have resided in Sturgis for the past six years.
He was a farmer and a truck driver, most recently driving for Miller Poultry in Orland, Ind., before he retired for health reasons.
Michael loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Donna; a daughter, Jennifer (Tim) Smith; a son, Michael Duane Shufelt II, both of Sturgis; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Sutton, Ashton Sutton, Aaliyah Mansker, Michael Duane Shufelt III, Creedon Smith and Colton Shufelt; a sister, Sue Hart of Bronson; and numerous nieces and nephews and his in-laws whom he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and his parents.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.
A graveside service celebrating the life of Michael Duane Shufelt will be held at a date to be announced at Trayer Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be directed to Three Rivers Hospice, 222 S. Main St., Three Rivers, MI 49093. Envelopes are available at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
