Vickie Black, 65

Vickie L. Black, 65, of White Pigeon, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Sturgis Hospital, following an extended illness.

She was born April 16, 1948, in Sturgis, a daughter of Otis and Arlene (Easterday) Leister. She had been a resident of White Pigeon since 1967, coming from Sturgis.

On Oct. 8, 1966, she married Russell L. Black in Sturgis.

She was a homemaker all her life and was employed by Sturgis Molded Products for 11 years.

She was a 1966 graduate of Sturgis High School. She enjoyed the family cabin in Dublin, bird watching, mushroom hunting, cooking, gambling and, most of all, spending time with her family.

Surviving are her husband, Russell L. Black of White Pigeon; two daughters, Laurie (Kevin) Saggars of Columbia City, Ind., and Stacy Gross of Colon; a son, Bradley (Dawn) Black of Kalamazoo; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three half-sisters, Donna Jones, Barbara Leister and Bonnie Leister-Smoker, all of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Robert Wagoner; and her stepmother, Betty Leister.

Graveside services and burial of cremains will at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at White Pigeon Township Cemetery, with chaplain Barbara Van Eck of Reverence Hospice officiating. Donations may be directed to Reverence Hospice. Envelopes are available at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, which is in charge of arrangements.
