A candlelight vigil in memory of Sturgis accountant David Locey drew more than 300 people to Free Church Park in downtown Sturgis Saturday night.
Organized by family friends Jade Klingler and Leeann Lindsey, the vigil featured reflections from Sturgis City Commissioner Rob Sisson, retired bank executive Frank Iannarelli and retired Sturgis economic development director John Hayes.
The trio made frequent references to Locey’s commitment to the city, benevolent nature and love for his family. Locey was active as a past or current member of the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce, St. Joseph County Transportation Authority, Glen Oaks Community College, Sturgis Kiwanis and owner of Timberly Tree Farm, north of Sturgis.
The 70-year-old Locey died last week in a shooting incident at his Sherman Township office. The matter is being investigated as a homicide.
Funeral services take place today in Sturgis.
