Police shooting was justified

A prosecutor has determined that three northern Indiana police officers acted properly when they fatally shot a man who ran from them and tried to shoot his way into a house. Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill says the Elkhart officers used reasonable force against 27-year-old Jamie Benavidez on Sept. 1. The Elkhart Truth reports that Hill’s findings say Benavidez ran from the scene of a reported house break-in and entered one house while he fled. Residents at another house shut their front door on Benavidez as he tried to enter, after which he shot into the door and then pointed his gun at the officers after they arrived. The report says Benavidez was under the influence of a controlled substance and alcohol at the time. No officers were injured.  (AP)
