Prescription drug abuse in St. Joe

The Substance Abuse Task Force of St. Joseph County is hosting a Frontline Luncheon on prescription drug abuse in St. Joseph County from noon to 1 Oct. 30 in the Dresser Business Auditorium of Glen Oaks Community College.

Dr. John Robertson, of Sturgis Health and Wellness, and a representative from the Michigan State Police, will be presenting at the event. They will discuss what prescription drug abuse looks like and what can be done to protect families.

In St. Joseph County, 16 percent of middle-school students reported having used a prescription drug without a prescription and 8 percent of high school students reported having used a prescription drug without a prescription in the past 30 days.

Cost for the luncheon is $5.50 for lunch from Yoder’s, or free to attend without lunch.

Due to limited space, registration is required and may be done by phoning Ashley Willis at 244-0008 by Oct. 28.
