Raymond M. Blaskie, age 82, passed away Monday night, Sept. 30, 2013, at the home of his sister Genevieve Cadman in Burr Oak, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 10, 1931, in Bronson, a son of the late Peter and Julia (Francisco) Blaskie.
He was proud to have served his country by making a career in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army. He served overseas in Korea, Germany and Vietnam as well as several bases in the United States. He retired from his military career in 1979 in Florida.
He enjoyed traveling, tending to his orange grove and visiting with his family.
Ray is survived by sisters Genevieve Cadman of Burr Oak, Teresa Grossman of Burr Oak and Angie Tierney of Elkhart, Ind.; a twin brother, Leon Blaskie of Irving, Texas; a nephew, James Cadman, who cared for him during his illness; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ted Blaskie, James Blaskie and John Blaskie; and a sister Gertrude Blaskie.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment and graveside services with full military rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, with the Rev. Father Richard Fritz, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiating.
