Donate your deer hide

Officials from the St. Joseph County Conservation Club have announced its Sherman Township headquarters will be a drop-off site for a Michigan United Conservation Club program through deer season.

The club is participating in “Defend the Hunt,” a program that allows hunters to donate deer hides that will be processed and sold, with proceeds going to defend hunting rights in Michigan.

Hunters are asked to drop off deer hides within two days after the animals are skinned.

Club officials said a pound of salt should be spread evenly over the skin side of a clean hide. The hide should then be rolled and can be placed in a container outside the club’s front gate.

The club is located at 23640 Featherstone Road.
