Gerald Douglas Tomey, Centreville, MI, passed away peacefully at his home Monday evening, November 25, 2013. He was born in Romulus, MI, on July 31, 1941 to Eula (Webb) and Earl Tomey. Jerry graduated from Romulus High School in 1960. He entered the US Air Force where he served as a jet mechanic in Plattsburgh, NY. In 1961 he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Elizabeth Sylvester. Jerry and Sharon spent the early part of their marriage in Westland, MI. Jerry attended Washtenaw Community College. He relocated to Centreville, MI in 1980 where he built his dream home and later retired from General Motors where he worked as a stationary engineer. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling across the United States in his RV, fishing and golfing with his buddies. He is preceded in death by his parents, a special great uncle, Alphus Webb, brother in law, James Offerman and his golfing buddies, Danny and Ron.
Jerry is survived by his bride Sharon, his daughters and their spouses, Julie and Tim Fry, Jeri and Roger Tetzloff. His grandchildren; Eric Fry and his wife Julie O’Brien (Chicago), Emily Fry, Thomas, Anna and Daniel Tetzloff, two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Owen Meek and his loyal dog, Daisy. Jerry was one of 6 children. His brothers and sisters also survive him; Joyce (Donald) Gregory, Frances Offerman, William (Judy) Tomey, Dennis (Carol) Tomey, Barbara Tomey along with brothers and sisters-in-law; Harry (Barb) Sylvester and JoAnn Bower and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Jerry enjoyed his life and loved his family.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville. Religious services will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Cremation will take place following the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to United Way of St. Joseph County, MI.
