Man shot in Sturgis

A 20-year-old man told police he was shot after refusing to give his money to a pair of would-be robbers.

Sturgis Police said a call of gunshots in the vicinity of Main and Jean streets was received around 2 a.m. Sunday. A search in the area found nothing suspicious.

The victim, however, went to the emergency room at Sturgis Hospital around 2:30 a.m. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

The man told police he was walking in the 400 block of East West Street when he was approached by two black men who ordered him to given them his money. The man said he refused and was subsequently shot by one of the two men.

He was treated for his injuries and released. The two suspects remain at large, police said.
