National Adoption Day

National Adoption Day was observed locally in St. Joseph County Tuesday, as Probate Court Judge David Tomlinson administered an adoption proceeding for a Three Rivers family.

Taylor and Sara Tompkins, 12- and 8-year-old sisters, were made the legal children of Jessen and Brooke Tompkins.

The public procedure marked the 14th year of acknowledging National Adoption Day locally. Tomlinson said the Tompkins quartet was chosen to symbolically represent families of all adoptions past and in the future in St. Joseph County.

Karie Saylor, licensing specialist with the St. Joseph County DHS and licensing worker for the Tompkins, expressed gratitude to the husband and wife for taking on the role of foster parents.

Taylor and Sara came to the Tompkins household as foster children in December 2012.
