Joyce L .Brandt, age 83, of Colon, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at her home, surrounded by family.
Joyce was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Colon, a daughter of the late Harry and Letha (Vreeland) Murphy.
Joyce lived all her life in Colon, attending Colon schools. She married Jack W. Brandt in 1947.
She enjoyed reading, baking and working out with aerobics.
Joyce was a homemaker and also worked for and retired from Colmer Company in Colon after 42 years of service.
She is survived by a daughter, Laura (Gerald) Friedman of Covert; two sons, Gary (Jonita) Brandt of Sturgis, and Bill (Ruth) Brandt of Colon; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy (Arthur) West of Colon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Jack W. Brandt; a granddaughter, Sarah Friedman-Woods; a brother, Gerald Murphy; and three sisters, Marieta Reed, Willadean Smith and Jean Delp.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Joyce L. Brandt will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 2013 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeremy Spence and Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon. A potluck luncheon will follow at Colon Masonic Lodge. If desired, the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Joyce to either Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Colon Township Library. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
