A committee of members from the St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club is expected to decide whether to sell or keep a portion of a large piece of land it recently purchased.
Jeff Brazo, club president, said the club acquired a 120-acre piece of land that includes a 40-acre parcel it had long sought. The committee will decide what to do with the additional 80 acres.
The property in question was purchased for $500,000 thanks to money bequeathed from a former member. It is west of Fair Road and south of Banker Road in Sherman Township.
Brazo said he expects the committee to take up to a year to reach a consensus.
The 80 acres includes a 23-acre, spring-fed pond; another 18 acres is farmed. Brazo said as far as he knows, the property is zoned agriculture.
