Church gave away turkeys

Colon Community Schools has issued a notice of appreciation to Covenant Church of Colon, which made possible a frozen turkey giveaway last month.

The church donated turkeys to every staff and board member, and families of children who attend Colon schools.

Pastor Matt Jones said the turkeys were loaded onto school buses and given to children by a church volunteer when they reached their destination on the final day of school before winter break. Meanwhile, walkers and children who were picked up were given a turkey as they exited the school.

Jones said churches are supposed to be an example of generosity.

In all, about 500 turkeys were purchased and distributed by a team of about 30 volunteers.
