James Edward Perry, 77, of Bonita Springs, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Juniper Village at Naples.
Jim had been a winter resident of Bonita Springs since 2002, also calling Sturgis home.
James was born Aug. 14, 1936, in Burlington, Iowa, a son of the late Eugene and Bernarda (Niemann) Perry.
Jim earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Iowa. Mr. Perry served in the National Guard. In 1967, Jim started working at Burr Oak Tool in Sturgis, and retired as vice president in 2001. He was a deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church of Sturgis.
In addition to golfing, boating, fishing, table tennis and bicycling, Jim also enjoyed traveling the world for both business and pleasure.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Karen (Veerman) Perry; loving children, Rick Perry of Bonita Springs and Susan (Robert) Leist of Sturgis; two brothers, Bernard Perry of Calumet City, Ill., and Richard (Jean) Perry of Burlington; a sister, Jean (Bill) Staats of Burlington; and a cherished grandson, Trevor Leist. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Levins and Ruth Ann Perry.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, Fla.
Additional services and inurnment will be held in late spring in Sturgis and will be announced.
