Lloyd L. “Louie” Hart, age 83, of Mendon died Saturday Jan. 18, 2014 at his home following a brief illness. He was born near Colon, MI on July 30, 1930 the son of Cecil and Minnie (Broker) Hart. Lloyd served stateside with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home he was married to Maxine Williams on July 7, 1957. They were later divorced. He was married to Clara Chamberlain on Oct. 8, 1984. Clara died in 1991.
Lloyd had been employed by the former Haas Corporation of Mendon, Early Bird RV, Wise Motors, and retired from Leland Engineering in 1995. He had supervised the Mendon Transfer Station for the past 20 years. Lloyd has been a volunteer with the Mendon Fire Department since 1959. He was also a member of Colon American Legion Post #454. Lloyd was a restorer of antique cars and always displayed several cars at the annual Old Car Dust-Off in Mendon and at other area shows. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, and grandchildren.
Lloyd is survived by a son, Jim (Shirel) Hart; a daughter, Debra (John) Johnson both of Mendon; six grandchildren, Jacob, Ryan, Toshia, and Christina Johnson, and Joshua and Kyle Yeomans; seven great-grandchildren; Clara’s children, Kim, Deb, Sheila, and Jeff; several step-grandchildren including Shannon Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara; two brothers, William and Russell Hart; and a sister, Merna Alleshouse.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 21, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Clint Zehr officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery near Colon with military honors by American Legion Post #454. It is suggested that memorials be directed to the Mendon Fire Department.
