Rachel B. Hostetler, age 90, of Sturgis, MI entered Heaven’s Gates, on Tuesday, January 07, 2014 at Thurston Woods Village.She was a native and former resident of Berne, IN, daughter of John P. and Barbara Schwartz, she was born on July 31, 1923. She married Joe R. Wickey on January 2, 1942 (deceased October 8, 1960). On March 7, 1971 she married Neil J. Hostetler (deceased June 27, 2005) they lived in Centreville, MI. Rachel was widely known as a praying lady; she worked for many years at Fairview Nursing Home and Nottawa Township Library. She lived at Thurston Woods, Sturgis; she loved being with family and friends. The nurses and staff said Rachel was a go-getter, competitive, loved people, made them smile and enjoyed yodeling and praying for everyone; she was a “Prayer warrior”. Rachel’s family thank Thurston Woods Nurses and Staff for all the love, care and all the extras they did for her, she was blessed! She was a member of Firm Foundation Ministries in Centreville. Surviving are her children: Joe & Carolyn Wickey, Charlottesville, VA, Joan and Floyd Miller, Centreville, John and Carolyn Wickey, Sturgis, Rosa and Randy Chupp, Sturgis; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 6 step children: Roman and Mary Hostetler, Middlefield, OH, Edna and James Farmwald, Huntsburg, OH, Fannie and Dave Owens, Davie, FL, Linda and Roman Hrynewycz, Warsaw, IN, Carol and Jim Byler, Hocshton, GA, Martha and Tony Lozier, Etna Green, IN and grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Joe and Rosa Schwartz, Grabill, IN. She was preceded in death by parents, husbands, 1 grandson, 1 great-grandson; 11 brothers; and 8 sisters. The family will receive friends and relatives from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M., Friday, at the Firm Foundation Ministries, 651 E. Main St., Centreville, MI 49091. Funeral Services celebrating the life of Rachel Hostetler will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, at the Firm Foundation Ministries with Pastors Don Smith, Greg Miller, and Rod Detweiler, officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery at the corner of Banker and Klinger Lake Road.
