Raymond Gerald Sharick, age 86, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Monday afternoon January 6, 2014 at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room.
He was born April 2, 1927 in Metamora, Illinois.
Ray resided in Sturgis for the past 57 years coming from LaGrange, Indiana.
He worked as an auto mechanic for forty years retiring from Dave Smith Pontiac Buick & GMC in Sturgis. Prior to joining Dave Smith he worked at Jack’s Auto Service in Sturgis for several of years.
Ray was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII stationed in Iceland earning the rank of Sergeant. He held Life memberships in Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the LaGrange American Legion Post #215. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, NASCAR, most sports especially basketball and football.
He is survived by one son: Michael Sharick; two granddaughters: Jennifer (Phillip) Smith of Washington state and Michelle Sharick of Sturgis; a great friend: May Snow of Sturgis; two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister: Dorothy Schertz and one brother: Robert Marchand.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no visitation. A graveside service and burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis Friday at 1:15 P.M. The Rev. Deb Johnson of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis will officiate.
