Dorothea Marie Robbins, age 98, of Burr Oak, Michigan passed away early Friday morning February 7, 2014 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born August 6, 1915 in Burr Oak Township, Michigan daughter of the late Albert and Clara (Hagelgans) Kaas.
Mrs. Robbins was a lifelong Burr Oak resident and Valedictorian graduate of Burr Oak High School with the class of 1933. She and her husband enjoyed spending many years wintering at their home in Florida.
On March 16, 1935 she married Robert F. Robbins in Burr Oak. He died February 5, 2006.
Mrs. Robbins was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak where she was a member of the Ladies Aide and served as a Sunday school teacher. For many years she served as a 4-H leader and she enjoyed playing cards, gardening and sewing. Mrs. Robbins was happiest when she was surrounded by her family especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters: Karen (David) Roudebush of Fremont, Indiana and Judy (Phillip) Chrisman of Nappanee, Indiana; seven grandchildren: Steve Chrisman, Cathy Chrisman, Angela Shortridge, Michele Purkey, Michael Roudebush, James Roudebush and Richard Roudebush; six great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Herbert Haskins of Sturgis; sister-in-law: June Kaas of Appleton, Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother: Wayne Kaas.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothea Robbins will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. The Rev. Kurt Kuhlmann will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
