A Sturgis man was charged with arson after he was involved in a dispute with his mother Monday night.
Sturgis police said they responded to the Fawn River Apartments in response to a man attempting to gain access into an apartment unit. The caller told police the man was looking for his mother.
According to police, the man and his mother were in a dispute earlier in the day and the mother left the residence out of fear for her safety. When the mother did not answer the door, the man allegedly set birdhouse decorations on fire outside her entryway.
He was arrested without incident a short time later.
