Candidates trimmed to three

The list of candidates for superintendent of Colon Community Schools has been trimmed to three, following action by the district’s board of education Monday.

Board president Ernie Baker said the finalists are: Victor Bungi of Gladstone, curriculum and instruction supervisor for the Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District in the Upper Peninsula; Drew Bordner, Richland, director of curriculum and instruction for Gull Lake Community Schools; and Mesick resident Mike Corey, superintendent of Mesick Public Schools.

They were chosen from a field of seven candidates interviewed last week.

Baker said second interviews with each of the three will occur next week, and site visits to the candidates’ districts will follow in early April.

The posted salary as head of the 630-student district is between $95,000 and $105,000.

Baker said he expects to have a new superintendent in place by the end of April.

The position became available after longtime district employee Lloyd Kirby retired in August.
