Frederick “Fred” Murl Thoms Jr., 63, of Bronson, passed away March 16, 2014, surrounded by family at Sturgis Hospital.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. March 29, 2014, at Union Hall in Bronson, located at the corner of Union Street and Albers.
Fred was born Oct. 16, 1950, in Coldwater, to Frederick and Betty (Savage) Thoms Sr. He graduated from Bronson High School before attending trade school to become a plumber and pipe-fitter.
He married the love of his life Sue Stebleton on Feb. 17, 1969. Fred was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a very smart man with many hobbies. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, bird-watching, and had a love of animals. Fred liked to play pranks and tell jokes. He was known in the family as Mr. Fix It, as he loved to tinker and there was never a job too big for him to handle.
Fred is survived by his wife, Sue Thoms of Bronson; his father, Frederick Thoms Sr. of Sturgis; a son, Frederick “Fred” (Tracy) Thoms III of Coldwater; a daughter, Gina (Mike Wadsworth) Adams of Manchester; a brother, David (Brenda) Thoms of Sturgis; two sisters, Janice Wasikowski of Wisconsin and Teresa “Terry” Sumpter of Shipshewana, Ind.; grandchildren Corey, Kandace (Sr. Airman Alan) Lancaster, Kari, Timothy and Kevin Cowell, and Austin and Ashlei Thoms; and great-grandchildren Carson, Kahlen, Kainaan and Cohen.
He was preceded in death by his mother; stepmother, Nancy Thoms; a brother, Allen Thoms; a granddaughter, Laci Adams; in-laws Harold and Lucille Stebleton; and a niece, Mindy Reuckert.
Arrangements were handled by Dutcher Funeral Home of Coldwater.
