Gladys Marie VanVlerah, 74. Born Jan. 1, 1940, Skillman (Hawesville), Ky. Parents: Alvin E. and Frances M. (Minnett) Shearn.
Survived by her children, Jay and Karen VanVlerah of Elkhart, Ind. and Sabra VanVlerah of Allegan; grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah VanVlerah of Ft. Collins, Colo. and Tyler VanVlerah of Bloomington (Elkhart), Ind.; three sisters, Marion Eubanks of Orlando, Fla., Jean Croce of Las Vegas, Nev. and Edna Rice of Hawesville, Ky.; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death: parents; one brother; one sister; son, Nathan Hale, Jr.; daughter, Michell VanVlerah.
Once a longtime Mottville resident, Gladys has lived in Three Rivers in the past several years. Retired, after 15 years, from Syndicate Systems, Middlebury, Ind. Gladys has also worked at Heartland (Docsa Manor) Nursing Home, Three Rivers, and at Markline Industries, Middlebury, Ind.
Gladys, over the years, had been involved with the Mottville Ladies Aide, Notary Public, St. Joseph County Commission on Aging, St. Joseph Genealogical Society, member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, White Pigeon. Has served as Post Commander, Women’s Auxiliary DAV, Jack Johnston Post #88, Sturgis.
Enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, spending time with friends and family, especially with her grandsons.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 14 at the Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon where services will be held at noon with Rev. Richard Altine officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Mottville Township Cemetery.
