Jack D. Rupert, age 80, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Saturday evening, March 22, 2014, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
He was born Nov. 30, 1933, in Delphos, Ohio, son of the late Cloyd and Madeline (Holden) Rupert.
Jack resided in Sturgis since 1967 coming from Detroit. On Oct. 1, 1951, he married Julie Coleman in Detroit.
He was a truck driver by trade and retired from Transportation Unlimited following many years of dedicated service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.
Jack was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper.
He is survived by his wife: Julie; one daughter: Cindi Rupert Goodwin of Sturgis; two sons: Jack (Carla) Rupert of Portage and David (Tracy) Rupert of Sturgis; six grandchildren: Mike (Katie) Rupert, Mark Rupert, Cole Rupert, Nick Ankney, Natalie (Scott) Boland, and Alex Rupert; five great grandchildren; three sisters: Margaret (Jack) Bolling, Shirley (Ted) Gieraltowski and Laura (Walt) Sponkowski all of the Detroit area and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Richard “Rick” Rupert and John Ronald Rupert and four brothers: Robert Rupert, William Rupert, Richard Rupert and Roger Rupert.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate and honor Jack’s life will be held from noon– 5 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Lodge, 66200 Grey Lake Road in Sturgis. Military honors will be conferred by the U.S. Army Honor Guard at 12:30 P.M. Saturday at the Lodge.
