Awards presented to officers

The Sturgis Police Department recently presented awards to its personnel for various honors.

The Professional Service Award was given to Det./Sgt. Ryan Banaszak. He was selected for the honor by Director of Public Safety Geoff Smith.

Meritorious Service Award recipients were Sgt. Jeremy Marsh, and officers Brian Cooper and Frank Noel. The award was presented for their part in a fatal house fire and recognizes outstanding performance of duty under unusual or difficult conditions.

Ten people were issued a unit citation award for performing efficient and valuable service to the department by carrying out a specific task or general duties over an extended period of time.

Last month’s awards program was the first conducted simultaneously with the Sturgis Fire Department.
