Boy struck by car

A 9-year-old Sturgis boy was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a car last weekend in Constantine Township.

A helicopter trying to fly the youth to a Kalamazoo hospital, however, resulted in damage to the AirCare ambulance.

Constantine fire officials said the incident occurred around 10 a.m. Sunday in the 25000 block of Riverside Drive. Investigators said the victim’s 11-year-old brother was attempting to move a vehicle at the request of a family member. The 11-year-old accelerated too quickly and lost control of the car, which struck his brother.

West Michigan AirCare was summoned to transport the victim, but a hard landing in Constantine High School’s parking lot caused the landing gear to collapse.

The boy was taken by ambulance instead to Bronson Methodist Hospital.
