Crash sends two to hospital

A personal-injury crash last week in Cass County sent two men to the hospital.

Sheriff Joe Underwood said a car driven by 53-year-old Michael Dudkiewicz, was heading north shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday on Baldwin Prairie Road in Porter Township, when he swerved to miss a deer, police said.

Dudkiewicz, of Vandalia, lost control of the vehicle near Chapel Hill Street, where his vehicle ran off the road and struck several trees.

He and passenger, James Dudkiewicz, 24, home town not stated, were transported by a friend to their residence and then contacted Cass County dispatch for an ambulance. They were taken to Elkhart General Hospital.

Safety belts were used and alcohol is a factor, according to authorities.
