Man arrested for meth

A 33-year-old Traverse City man was charged with drug- and weapon-related offenses early Thursday in Sturgis.

The man was arrested after the vehicle in which he was a passenger was stopped for an equipment violation shortly after 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of East West and Arden Park streets.

Sturgis police said the man was found to be in possession of an open intoxicant. As he exited the vehicle, the man fled on foot. He was captured a short time later and police discovered he was in possession of a large amount of crystal meth. In addition, police recovered a pistol he had discarded during the chase.

The weapon was found to have been stolen from a residence in Sturgis.

He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearms, possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute meth, two counts of resisting and obstructing, providing false information and open intoxicants. He also had two outstanding warrants from Grand Traverse County and a warrant from the Sturgis Police Department.
