Missing person found

A person considered by authorities to be suicidal was found after a rigorous search in Cass County Wednesday morning and afternoon.

Sheriff Joe Underwood Jr. said his office was advised around 7:30 in the morning of a missing suicidal subject in the 65000 block of North Peninsula Drive in Porter Township.

Deputies were made aware that the subject had taken a large quantity of a prescription drug, was threatening suicide and then left the residence on foot.

After conducting a door-to-door search of the neighborhood, Porter Township fire units, along with the Cass County Search and Rescue Unit, located the subject about six hours later in a wetland area north of the subject’s residence.

The subject was transported to Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment.

Deputies were assisted by the Porter Twp. Fire and Ambulance as well as the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit, along with the Cass Co. Marine Division.
