A 22-year-old man has been found guilty in the killing of a 1-year-old Kalamazoo girl who authorities say had hemorrhaging in her brain and eyes as well as alcohol and marijuana in her blood. A jury convicted Toren Hains Tuesday of felony murder and first-degree child abuse in the December 2012 death of Zoie Grace Johnston of Oshtemo Township. The murder conviction comes with mandatory life imprisonment. Officials say Hains was babysitting and was the boyfriend of the child’s mother. An autopsy found the cause of death was head trauma. Hains testified last week that he didn’t hurt Zoie and she suffered a seizure after falling from his arm. A pathologist said the condition of her body was consistent with violent shaking or being struck. (AP)
