River cleanup begins Saturday

The St. Joseph County Conservation District wishes to remind county residents that the first of five river cleanup efforts this summer takes place this weekend.

Saturday’s event will start at 9 am and cover a four-mile stretch of the Fawn River, from Fawn River Road to Dickinson Road in White Pigeon Township.

Volunteers are needed and may participate by showing up at the end point by 9 am, and transportation will be provided to the start.

Additional cleanup dates are June 21, July 19, August 9 and September 6.

The 2014 season marks the fourth consecutive year of what is expected to be a six-year effort to clean all 150 miles of rivers in the county.
