River cleanup schedule

The St. Joseph County Conservation District has announced its 2014 river cleanup schedule.

Jen Miller, administrator of the Centreville-based agency, said there will be fewer cleanups this year, as eight per summer the past three summers seemed to limit the number of volunteers.

The fourth season of the cleanup project starts Saturday on the Fawn River in White Pigeon Township, from Fawn River Road to Dickinson Road.

It continues June 21 in Burr Oak Township on the Prairie River, from Burr Oak Road to Middle Colon Road.

July 19, the Nottawa Creek and St. Joseph River in Leoindas Township will follow. Then, the Pigeon River from Blue School Road to Vistula Road in Mottville Township takes place Aug. 9.

The 2014 season concludes Sept. 6 in Flowerfield Township, where a stretch from Flatbush Road to Floating Bridge Road will be covered.

Miller said she would appreciate any number of volunteers to aid with the task. More information is available on the agency’s website: stjoecountycd.com.
