The St. Joseph County Conservation District is inviting the public to participate in the first of a series of tree-planting events scheduled to take place over the next year.
As part of Project ReLEAF, about 125 native hardwood trees will be planted Thursday morning in a quarter acre area off Marcellus Road in Park Township. The goal is to plant 5,000 trees by the end of May next year.
Volunteers are asked to meet by 8:50 a.m. Thursday at the Conservation District’s office, 693 E. Main St., in Centreville. Departure is at 9 a.m. and the planting process should take about three hours.
