America & Me contest winners

Three students from Colon Jr./Sr. High School have been named local winners in the 45th annual “America & Me” essay contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.

The students who earned first, second and third place awards respectively were Rachel Jensen, Haley Tyler and Myrh Brimmer.

All three received award certificates for their achievement. As the school’s first-place winner, Jensen’s name will be engraved on a plaque for permanent display at the school.

Jensen’s entry advances to the state level from which the top 10 essays in Michigan will be selected. The topic of the 2013-14 contest was “My Personal Michigan Hero.”
