Burglaries appear to be connected

Officers from the Sturgis Police Department are investigating a pair of weekend burglaries that appear to be connected.

According to a department media release, a residence in the 400 block of East South Street was forcibly entered and multiple firearms were stolen. The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. Saturday. The family was home at the time.

About five hours later, police were called to a different house in the same block of East South Street in response to a burglary in progress. The would-be victim told police she awoke to find two burglars inside her residence. She was able to scare off the pair and they fled the scene on foot after taking an undisclosed amount of cash.

A department K9 unit was unable to locate the suspects.
