Irene Tokarski, 87

Mrs. Emma Irene (Chrisman) Tokarski, age 87, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28th, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 25, 1927 in Florence Twp., MI. the daughter of the late Elmer E. and Ruth L. (Eash) Chrisman.

Mrs. Tokarski attended schools in Three Rivers graduating in 1945. On June 15, 1948 she was united in marriage to Mr. Stanley C. Tokarski at St. John’s Lutheran Church parsonage by Rev. John Recher. She was employed at the Murphy’s dime store downtown Three Rivers and later at several family owned gas and service stations. Irene was a faithful and active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs. After the death of her husband she opened her home to childcare for family and friends.

Irene enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, camping, and visiting with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stanley, great-grandson Benjamin, and several aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters in law, cousins and friends.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, two daughters, Mrs. James (Sharon) Hawes, and Mrs. John (Gail) Schrader; one son, Stanley (Sandy) Tokarski; grandchildren, Jonathon (Erin) Schrader, Amanda Schrader, Shane (Melissa) Hawes, Steven (Jennifer) Hawes, Brian Hawes, Austin and Meaghan Tokarski. Great-grandchildren, Nathan Schioperay, Justin and Tenley Hawes. Sisters, Opal Brown and Doris Evans. Brothers, James (Julia) Chrisman, and Charles Chrisman. Several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church; 56050 Buckhorn Rd; Three Rivers, MI 49093.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Karleen Kinker officiating.

Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery.
