Man stable after stabbing

A Sturgis man is in stable condition after he was stabbed during a residential break-in attempt Sunday.

The incident took place in the 29000 block of Fawn River Road, where the victim was stabbed several times in the neck and chest, according to Sturgis Police. The 83-year-old victim was airlifted to a Kalamazoo hospital.

A 28-year-old suspect is awaiting return to St. Joseph County from Illinois after being charged in the incident.

Josh Webster, of Sturgis, was arrested Monday in Illinois. Police said Webster fled in a stolen vehicle after the stabbing.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough said Webster will be charged with assault with intent to murder, armed robbery and vehicle theft.

The St. Joseph County Major Crimes Task Force was activated to investigate the incident.
