Theresa Marie Zmudka, age 77, of Mendon, died Saturday, June 21, 2014 at her home following a long illness. She was born in Pontiac, MI on Oct. 3, 1936 the daughter of James Edward and Mary Frances (Phelan) Fitzstephens. He attended St. Michael Catholic School in Pontiac and graduated from Mendon High School in 1954. Soon after she moved to Chicago where she worked at Hughgolet Systems where she later became the office manager. Theresa returned to Mendon twenty years ago. She served as Treasurer for the Mendon Riverfest for several years, and enjoyed reading and knitting in her spare time.
Theresa is survived by four children, Kathleen Zmudka of Mendon, Jeane Terese Antonio of St. Louis, MO, James Zmudka of Phoenix, AZ, and Kelli (Patrick) Wall of Galesburg; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Brenda) Fitzstephens of Mumfordsville, KY; a sister, Mary Ellen (Charles) Cook of Marcellus; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Robert Woodhall and Raymond Zmudka; three brothers, Tomas, Patrick, and James Fitzstephens.
It was Theresa’s wish to be cremated. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. A memorial mass will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Rev. Jim Vinh Le officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in St. Edward Cemetery.
