Sewer system for county park

A proposed infrastructure improvement at Cade Lake Park would allow it to have the benefit of a sewer system.

Members of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to a contract with Jones Petrie Rafinski for engineering services related to the proposal.

County administrator Pat Yoder said the plan calls for expanding a sewer pipe from a Burr Oak sewer line lift station on the north side of U.S. 12 to the 94-acre Fawn River Township park and campground.

The Burr Oak lift station eventually ends up in the Sturgis sewer-treatment system.

Commissioners agreed to a $14,700 expense to work with Jones and put together a request for proposals for engineering-related work. According to a report from Jones, the job would call for 1,500 linear feet of four-inch pipe to connect from the park’s common restroom and dump station facility to the existing eight-inch main.
