Thomas Orland Monroe (Tom), 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 20, 2014 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He was born in South Bend, Ind., the son of Rollo and Theresa Monroe. He earned an engineering degree from Michigan State University and married the late Jean Monroe (nee Fosdick) in 1946. He is a World War II veteran.
Mr. Monroe began working at the Johnson Corporation in 1947, eventually serving as Vice-President. He loved traveling internationally for the company, establishing lasting relationships with colleagues and customers all over the world. During his lifetime, Mr. Monroe served his community in numerous ways as an active member of the Rotary Club, Red Cross, Shriners, Elks, First Presbyterian Church and the VFW.
Thomas Monroe is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sallie; son Thomas Jr. and his wife Linda; son Jeffrey and his wife Cathy; and daughter Cynthia Bartell and her husband Wayne. He is also survived by his seven loving grandchildren, Thomas Monroe III, Jacqueline Callan, Helena Monroe, Patricia Thorp, Jeannie Monroe and Andrew and Brian Bartell.
Mr. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill Monroe; and his sister, Evelyn Monroe.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
