The St. Joseph County United Way and Sturgis Walmart are teaming up for a program that will benefit local students.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, the Sturgis Walmart will host “Fill the Bus,” a program, which provides school supplies and backpacks to area children.
Bins are currently in place at the front of both entrances at the Sturgis Walmart, where items purchased this week can be placed. The event culminates Friday, when volunteers for the St. Joseph County United Way will help out with gathering collections in front of the South Centerville Road store.
The purchased items will then be donated to the Sturgis Backpack program.
United Way director Kelly Hostetler issued a special thank you to the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority for donating the bus for the event, and to Sturgis Walmart for its continued support of the United Way.
