L.D. Ballman, age 86, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 at Fairview Living and Rehabilitation Community in Centreville. He was born in Mendon on Feb. 13, 1928 the son of John J. and Mary Anna (Shaw) Ballman, and attended Mendon Schools. He worked on the family farm before joining the Army Air Corps. L.D. was married to Norene Mae Umlor on Dec. 21, 1949 in Mendon, and they resided in Parkville for many years. L.D. had been employed at the Haas Corporation in Mendon and Denton Mills in Centreville, and for Simpson Paper Company in Vicksburg. He was a member of the former Snow-Hasbrouck V.F.W. Post #4898 in Mendon.
L.D. is survived by five children and their spouses, Morris (Denise) Ballman, Donald (Cheryl) Ballman, and Joseph (Sheryl) Ballman all of Three Rivers, Julia (Rodney) Bolte and Carol (John) Verhey both of Sturgis; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norene; granddaughter, Angel Bronstetter; and nine siblings.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014 in Parkville Cemetery with Rev. Christopher Ankley, Pastor of St. Martin of Tours Parish officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Hice-Shutes American Legion Post #170.
