Louis Underly, 89

Louis W. Underly, age 89, of Marcellus, MI passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014 at home.
He was born September 22, 1924 in South Bend, IN the son of Louis William and Bessie (Sears) Underly. On October 30, 1942 he married Marguerite Ference who preceded him in death in September 2012.
He served three years with the United State Navy from 1943-1946. Returning to the South Bend area he was employed with Studebaker for about 10 years. In 1956 he moved his family to Volinia, MI where he began his employment with Rudy Manufacturing in Dowagiac, MI which later became Sundstrand Heat Transfer, Inc., retiring in 1984. He was a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite attaining the highest level of 32degree. Louis was an avid fisherman and moved to his favorite fishing lake, Big Fish Lake, Marcellus in 1967. Louis was very proud of his sons, their spouses and his grandchildren. He delighted in being with them.
Surviving are two sons, Alan (Betty) Underly of Kokomo, IN and Richard (Wendy) Underly of Marcellus, MI; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Fritzi McKinney, Alta Dominiak and Helen Custard and three brothers, Joseph, Otto and Delbert.
In accordance to Louis’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with his family to celebrate his life and share stories on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 1 to 4 P.M. at the Marcellus V.F.W. Post 4054.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Louis’s memory be made to the Marcellus Ambulance Service or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Arrangements were handled by the Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, Marcellus. Online condolences may be left at www.materralstonfuneralhome.com
