A member of the Sturgis Fire Department was arrested Tuesday on multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department said details of the matter originated from an alleged inappropriate relationship with a female that allegedly started when the suspect was teaching a class at Sturgis High School.
The Sturgis Fire Department administration earlier this month was made aware of a firefighter who allegedly violated departmental general orders.
The 36-year-old firefighter, a four-year member of the Sturgis department, was placed on non-paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation, according to Sturgis police. An arraignment is expected to take place today.
It is anticipated that the investigation will be completed later this week and a decision made regarding the status of the firefighter.
Additional details were not released by the sheriff’s office or the Sturgis Police Department.
