Public input sought for river trail master plan

The second of two meetings regarding a river trail master plan has been set for next week in Sturgis.

Officials from St. Joe-based design firm Edgewater Resources, which staged the initial meeting Aug. 20 in Three Rivers, will seek public input on the master plan during a gathering at 7 p.m. Monday at the Doyle Center.

The plan, proposed initially by the St. Joseph County Conservation District, is designed to address river access within St. Joseph County. It will help identify riverfront assets of St. Joseph County as a public recreational resource, a source of environmental value and a catalyst for meaningful economic development through increased tourism, according to county officials.

Residents are encouraged to provide input to help determine which goals and objectives to pursue in order to improve and expand access to the county’s rivers and streams.
