Victor T. Myers, age 78, of Granger, Ind., passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, Sept. 14, 2014, at his home.
He was born July 25, 1936, in Sturgis, a son of the late Victor and Dorothy (Gay) Myers.
Vic resided in Granger for the past 30 years. Prior to moving to Granger, he lived in Elkhart, Ind., and his early life was lived in Sturgis, where he was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1955.
Vic was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army from Oct. 17, 1957 to Oct. 12, 1960, earning the rank of SP5.
On Nov. 8, 1958, he married Janyce K. Wright at First United Methodist Church in Sturgis.
Vic retired from N.C.R. in Mishawaka, Ind., following 32 years of dedicated employment as a computer specialist.
He was a member of Faith Community Church in Elkhart, Ind. He was also a member of the Sailing Club on Eagle Lake in Edwardsburg, Small Aircraft Club and euchre and card clubs. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, flying and, in his younger years, racing motorcycles. Vic loved traveling to the family cabin on Crooked Lake located in the Hiawatha National Forrest in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Janyce; a son, Bradley (Julia) Myers of Nappanee, Ind.; a daughter, Connie (Kyle) Myers-Kracher of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two grandchildren, Steven (Ashley) Myers of Nappanee, Ind., and Jenifer (Jesse) Fisher of Nappanee, Ind.; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Fisher; two sisters, Janet (John) Wright of Watsonville, Calif., and Vicki Lynn Myers of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Victor T. Myers will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor Randy Smith of Faith Community Church in Elkhart, Ind., will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
