Alice E. Barnes, 88, passed away peacefully October 9, 2014 in Atlantis, FL at JFK Medical Center, where she had been a volunteer. Alice had also resided in Boynton Beach, FL and Tinton Falls, NJ . Alice was born on August 21, 1926 in Three Rivers, MI to Burl and Doris (Hilbert) Byers from Farmer, OH. Alice received her AA degree from Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. She worked for Barnes Sales and Service, Inc., a family owned appliance business in NJ. In Lantana. FL, she volunteered at Royal Palm School with children of special needs. Love of family and home were the center of Alice’s world. Alice’s friends considered her a blessing from God. Alice married Thomas E. Barnes, on February 18, 1946 in Charleston, SC and Thomas predeceased her in 2009.Thomas was a retired chief from the US Coast Guard and he served in the Navy WWII. Alice was also preceded in death by her son Thomas E. Barnes, Jr, a retired Lt Commander in the US Navy. Alice is survived by a daughter, Victoria Valdez and son-in-law Robert Valdez, of Airmont, NY, a daughter-in-law, Susan Barnes of Virginia Beach, VA and a son, Robert E. Barnes and daughter-in-law, Linda Barnes, of Kunkletown, PA. Alice had (7) grandchildren, (5) great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Alice is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Kim Barnes of Boynton Beach, FL. Freeman Barnes and Beatrice Barnes, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law of Leesburg, FL predeceased Alice. Inurnment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery.
