Jeane Fae Houck, age 72, of Sturgis, and formerly of Colon, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, at the Sturgis Hospital emergency room.
Jeane was born July 15, 1942, a daughter of the late Jack Brandon and Tekla (Sauer) Matchett.
She had lived all of her adult life in St. Joseph County and had graduated from White Pigeon High School with the class of 1960, and continued her education at Western Michigan University.
On Nov. 16, 1978, she married David W. Houck in Berrien Springs, Mich.
Jeane had owned and operated D&J Bait and Tackle in Colon with her husband Dave and also had worked as a cook for Sedy’s Restaurant in Colon for several years.
Jeane enjoyed quilting, sewing and antiquing.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Houck of Sturgis; children, Jeff (Sara) Keagle of Sturgis, Julie (Luke) Parsons of Three Rivers, Jennifer (Bruce) Litke of LaGrange, Ind., and Christopher Houck and friend Crystal Schwartz of Sturgis; a stepdaughter, Lori (Dustin) Wolhers of Sturgis; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a stepson David Houck Jr.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Private family services will take place at a later date.
