Jim Fisher, 91

James “Jim” Edward Fisher, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 in Cassopolis. He was born on July 22, 1923 the only child to Marie (Bartozak) and Max (Marion) Fisher of South Bend. He grew up on Chapin Street, where he helped his father run Fisher’s Meat Market.
In 1942, Jim joined the United States Naval Corps. He proudly was sent to defend his country in the south pacific. He was a tail gunner on the infamous B-16 bomber squadron, (VB137) and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for meeting the enemy by air, water and land. We are all very proud of his military service.

On Valentine’s Day, in 1946, Jim met the love of his life, Joan (Michalski) Graham at a dance for servicemen. It was love at first sight and they were married the following year. Jim and Joan had three children, Susan (Richard) Roscher of Leland, North Carolina, Mike Fisher (Mary) of Marcellus, Michigan and Sally Potts (C.A.) of Granger, Indiana. Grandchildren, Max and Joe(Fisher), Abra Clime, Jack and Matt (Beaudway) , Erin (Moss) & Megan (Roscher), Ryan Potts and great grandchildren, Aurora, Raine, Max, Tymber (Fisher) ,Ethan Bateman, Kaynin and Mia Beaudway , and Gillian and Elliott Roscher- Moss, Ethane and Chanse Potts.

After 49 years of marriage, Joan preceded Jim in death in 1996. A huge hole was left in the hearts of all who knew her. Rather than fall into a depression, Jim decided to stay positive and make diet and exercise a major part of his everyday life. He worked out six days a week and adopted an all natural, vegetarian/health food way of eating. He often said he was the best looking 90 year old he ever met!

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no public services held at this time.
