Wednesday’s ninth annual Project Connect, hosted by Firm Foundation Ministries in Centreville, featured more than 70 vendors who offered services ranging from housing and utility-bill assistance, to haircuts and food boxes.
Anita Schlabach, who organized this year’s Project Connect on behalf of the St. Joseph County Housing Task Force, said more than 500 people attended.
New this year was dental hygiene services from personnel with Jackson-based Smiles on Wheels. Meanwhile, standbys such as Community Action Agency, KeyStone Place and Michigan Works returned to help any way they could.
Schlabach said a strong turnout from the Hispanic community in Sturgis was able to utilize the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority and its offer of a free ride to and from the event.
