The September unemployment rate in St. Joseph County increased by one-tenth of a percent compared to a month earlier.
The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed St. Joseph County’s 5.2 percent September unemployment rate was more than August’s 5.1 percent.
September’s unemployment rate, however, was a full 2 percent less than the same month one year earlier, when the figure was 7.2 percent.
St. Joseph County remained below the state unemployment average, which was 6.7 percent in September.
At 6.4 percent, Hillsdale County had the region’s highest unemployment rate in September, while Barry County had the lowest, with 4.7 percent.
